You Need to Upgrade Your Flash Player The first annual North Carolina CEO Forum was hosted by Summit Performance Systems and Rick Deckelbaum and Associates at the Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, N.C. on May 15, 2009. The forum was a premier event for North Carolina business leaders to explore how the economy is affecting both the public and non-profit sectors of industry. Participants discussed how to navigate this global economic crisis and emerge stronger than ever as the economy recovers. The forum was developed for the speakers and guests to “Gain insight, Develop relationships, and Participate in discussions”. The Forum was supplemented by a cocktail reception held at the Umstead Hotel and Spa the Thursday evening prior to the event. This provided an opportunity for the sponsors and speakers to network and mingle with those in related and non-related fields and thus contribute to the comfortable atmosphere at the event the following day.
Steve Forbes, Chairman and CEO of Forbes and editor and chief of Forbes magazine, was the featured keynote speaker at the event. He enlightened the crowd through humor and interactive discussion, making for an informative and interesting dialogue. From making jokes about the price of Starbucks coffee to critiquing the Obama and Bush administrations, Forbes offered a candid opinion on the current state of the economy. He managed to convince the audience that through creativity and innovation we will bring ourselves out of this dismal economic period. “Economics is turning today’s scarcities into tomorrow’s abundance,” said Forbes.
In addition to Mr. Forbes, several CEOs and top executives from North Carolina companies - of varied fields - convened for panel discussions and a Q&A, focusing on strategy and tactics for persevering through this economic crisis. Some of the company leaders which were represented include, First Citizens Bank, SAS, Wake Med, GlaxoSmithKline, IBM, Coldwell Banker Commercial Trademark Properties, Progress Energy, and Make-A-Wish Foundation, along with many others. With the variety of top executives in attendance, some of the largest and most renowned companies in the state chose to sponsor the event such as NBC17, Quintiles, BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina, RBC and the Center for Creative Leadership.
With almost 300 people in attendance and some of the top business minds in the country, the event proved to be a success. The 2010 NC CEO Forum is already in the developmental stages, with hopes of having even more attendees at the second annual event. Many local media outlets and publications praised the event and its effort to inspire and align North Carolina industries.
Additional details about the 2010 NC CEO Forum will be published on this website as soon as they are available. Attendance of the 2010 NC CEO Forum will be by invitation only. To request an invitation to the 2010 NC CEO Forum, click here.
